1. Master Project coordinator
2. Concept and development
The Master Project involves an independent effort to writing a thesis. Students develop skills in formulating, modelling and solving economic and managerial problems; this includes reporting of results, drawing conclusion(s) and formulating recommendations for further theory development and practice. The development of a thesis implies the creation of an individual contribution, based on a theoretical and methodological framework grounded in the academic literature relevant to the research topic. The thesis should surpass a merely descriptive account of the phenomenon under study and requires a tailored and scientifically grounded analysis, including critical reflection(s) and resulting in a clear synthesis.
3. Selection and working out of the subject
Thesis subjects are chosen in the first month of the academic year. The student can select a subject from a list of topics proposed by the teaching staff of the major International Business courses.
The development of the thesis subject will depend on the department that has provided the topic.
4. Form of the master project
The master project consists of an individual written thesis. The thesis may be theoretical or empirical (case studies, statistical analysis); in the latter case it is based on sound theoretical foundations. Evaluation is determined by the quality of the thesis rather than its length. The maximum length is set at 15.000 words.
The exact specifications of the content and the form of the master’s thesis will depend on the department within which the thesis will be written (of which the promotor of the thesis is a member).
5. Evaluation
Three copies of the thesis have to be submitted to the student administration, at least 3 weeks before the planned defense. The evaluation committee consists of the promotor, the assistant and a third evaluator.
The thesis is defended in accordance with the rules of the department of the promotor of the thesis.
The evaluation is based on the following components:
- 80% on the thesis text;
- 20% on the oral defence.
