Your coordinator is Katrien Antonio.
2. Aims

He conducts personal, objective and methodological research and reports his findings in appropriate scientific language. The study is not only descriptive, but includes personal findings and critiques.The research uses relevant theories and methodologies which are available in scientific literature.
3. Selection of the topic and work process
A list with topics, promotors and workleaders will be available on TOLEDO at the start of the academic year.The list of topics is not exhaustive, students can suggest their own topic. Moreover, the number of suggested topics does not necessarily correspond to the number of theses a professor is willing to supervise.
The student works under supervision of a promotor and (if available) a workleader. The promotor is a ZAP member. The workleader is a member of the scientific personnel of K.U.Leuven. It is the responsability of the student to contact promotor and workleader on a regular basis. He reports about his work and shows drafts of his text. Feedback is given by workleader and promotor.
Two settings are possible:
1) an individual research paper;
2) a research paper written by a team of students (2), complemented with an individual reflection paper (no guidance by promotor of workleader). The students defend both parts of the master paper. The individal paper consists of (maximum) 4000 words and includes: personal views about the topic, findings and working process, implications for practice, ...
4. Content
Writing a research paper in the field of finance or actuarial science. This analytical work is supervised by the professors who are active in the application field chosen and who are teaching the elective courses in that field. During the work students come in close contact with the researchers working in their field of interest.
5. Evaluation
The research paper is submitted in 3 copies. The evaluation of the research paper is done by the promotor and the discussant, as well as the work leader. The discussant is appointed by the coordinator. The student defends his paper during an oral presentation (approx. 30 minutes). During 15 minutes the student presents his work. Questions follow. The list of reading committees will be published on TOLEDO before the oral defense.
