2. Aims

The Master's thesis consists of writing a research paper on a specific problem in the field of interest of the student. The aim is to teach the students how to formulate and solve a concrete economic problem and how to report about their findings, including the social implications. The end product must show that the student masters the recent methodological tools of economics and can apply them independently.

3. Selection of the topic

The student chooses an advisor from the Department of Economics.  Publication lists and course lists indicate a possible advisor's research interest and expertise.  Both the advisor and/or studente can suggest a topic and have to agree on a title. They have to submit the definitive title of the thesis before January 10.

4. Content

Writing a research paper. This analytical work is supervised by the professors who are active in the application field chosen and who are teaching the elective courses in that field. During the work at their paper students come in close contact with the researchers working in their field of interest. They attend research seminars and internal working groups.

5. Evaluation

The research paper is submitted in 2 copies. The evaluation of the research paper is done by the advisor and the discussant, during an oral defense. The discussant is appointed by the Master's thesis coordinator. The oral defense is a meeting between the student, the advisor and the discussant. During 45 minutes the student presents his research paper and the advisor and discussant ask questions about the paper.
