2. Aims

The Master's thesis consists of writing a research paper on a specific problem in the field of interest of the student. The aim is to teach the students how to formulate and solve a concrete problem and how to report about their findings. The end product must show that the student masters the recent methodological tools of business economics and can apply them independently. The research paper can be the onset for the first chapter of the PhD dissertation.

3. Selection of the topic

The student chooses an advisor in the research field of his or her interest. Publication lists and course lists indicate a possible advisor’s research interest and expertise. Both the advisor and/or the student can suggest a topic and have to agree on a title. The student has to submit the definitive title of the thesis before November 1st.

4. Content

Writing a research paper with a substantial literature review and an empirical part. During the work at their paper students come in close contact with the researchers working in their field of interest. They attend research seminars.

5. Evaluation

The research paper is submitted in copies. The evaluation of the research paper is done by the advisor and 2 discussants, during an oral defense. The discussants are chosen by the Advisor. The oral defense is a meeting between the student, the advisor and the discussants. During 45 minutes the student presents his/her research paper and the advisor and discussants ask questions about the paper.
