The Research Group International Finance is headed by
Piet Sercu and consists, in addition, of seven researchers,
all headed for a PhD in Finance (6) or Economics (1):
Their funding is FWO (5), ICM (1), and IRO (1). The group’s research is mostly focused on forward markets for
currencies or commodities, as well as on general hedging issues;
but Piet occasionally works on more general finance issues.
The group’s objective, like everybody else’s, is to produce good research and get it published
in decent journals.
In addition, Piet wants to produce decent teaching material. There is a lot of interaction:
the researchers share a large common office, and there are frequent internal seminars where interim
results are presented and critically discussed.
