Center of Excellence: Governments & Markets
Background
Welcome to the Center of Excellence: Governments & Markets – Institutions and Regulations for a Changing World.
In 2005 LICOS was selected by the University of Leuven as a Center of Excellence to study the liberalization process in former communist countries and developing countries from Africa to China.
In 2010 seven colleagues from CES, LICOS and VIVES joined forces to significantly extend the program to study the role of institutions and regulations in developed countries. A central question is whether developed countries should tackle their current economic problems with more regulations or with less but smarter regulations. This research is at the intersection of various fields, including industrial organization, international trade, labor economics, public policy and regional economics.
